Fire crews rescue 14 from Deptford tower block blaze

Have you got effective fire detection in place?

Do you have a clear evacuation procedure?

A fire in a tower block in Deptford last night has highlighted the importance of fire detection and alarm systems, as well as having effective evacuation procedures in place. Ten fire engines and 50 firefighters from the London Fire Brigade responded to the incident in the early hours of this morning (September 21st) and helped 13 adults and a child to safety.
The rescued individuals were taken to safety from the seventh, eighth and ninth floors of the building located in Tanners Hill, according to the brigade, which revealed that around 60 people were evacuated to a nearby college.
Fire and rescue services were notified of the incident at 22:40 BST on Monday evening and managed to bring the situation under control by 02:50 BST.
A crew manager from Greenwich fire station, who attended the incident, said: \”Our crews did really well in tackling the fire and managed to rescue a number of adults and a child, despite the extreme heat and a lot of smoke inside the building.\”
Fire detection and alarm systems are critical to notifying residents of such blocks of an incident the moment it starts.
