Slyfield Green fatal fire: Arrested man released

A man arrested over the death of a World War Two soldier killed in a house fire in Surrey has been released.

Frederyk \”Fred\” Kucharski, 92, was rescued from the fire in Slyfield Green, Guildford, on 6 July 2013, but died in hospital five days later.

A 37-year-old woman arrested over the suspected arson attack has already been released by Surrey Police.

Now a 25-year-old man, who had answered bail, has been told no further action will be taking against him.

Mr Kucharski fled his native Poland and fought for the Allies during WW2.

Det Insp Dave Cooper said: \”This is very much still a live investigation into the death of an elderly man but it has proved a complex case which has required many enquiries to be carried out by detectives.

\”The relationship between the offenders and their friends may have changed since the offence took place and they may wish to now come forward with information on who was responsible for this appalling act.\”
