Requirement

 

Although all fires may look the same there are actually many types. Knowing the difference between them and selecting the correct extinguisher is essential in order to tackle a fire safely. Types of Fire

Class A Class A

Freely burning materials e.g. Wood, Paper, Fabric, etc.

Class B Class B

Flamable liquids e.g. Petrol, Oil, Solvents, Paints, etc.

Class F Class F

Cooking oils and fats e.g. Olive Oil, Lard, Butter, etc.

Types of Extinguishers

 

 

Water

  • For use on Class A fires
  • Do not use on electrical hazards

 

AFF Foam

  • For use on Class A and B fires
  • Do not use on electrical hazards

 

Wet Chemical

  • For use on Class A, B and F fires
  • Do not use on electrical hazards

 

Carbon Dioxide

  • For use on Class A, B fires
  • Can use on electrical hazards

 

Dry Powder

  • For use on Class A, B fires
  • Can use on electrical hazards
