Fire Extinguishers

Requirement

Although all fires may look the same there are actually many types. Knowing the difference between them and selecting the correct extinguisher is essential in order to tackle a fire safely. Types of Fire

	Class A Freely burning materials e.g. Wood, Paper, Fabric, etc.
	Class B Flamable liquids e.g. Petrol, Oil, Solvents, Paints, etc.
	Class F Cooking oils and fats e.g. Olive Oil, Lard, Butter, etc.

Types of Extinguishers

Water

• For use on Class A fires
• Do not use on electrical hazards

AFF Foam

• For use on Class A and B fires
• Do not use on electrical hazards

Wet Chemical

• For use on Class A, B and F fires
• Do not use on electrical hazards

Carbon Dioxide

• For use on Class A, B fires
• Can use on electrical hazards

Dry Powder

• For use on Class A, B fires
• Can use on electrical hazards
